Business Coach Darwin
For Darwin Owners Running Real Businesses in a Market That Does Not Look Like Anywhere Else
Sean Soole runs Inner Circle, a mentoring program for Darwin business owners running companies between $750k and $50M in turnover. Wigg Plumbing, one of the Northern Territory’s larger plumbing operations, is a current Darwin member. Sean has worked directly with owners running trades, construction, hospitality, transport and professional services businesses across the Top End.
Most Darwin owners get in touch at a similar point. The business is doing real revenue and has been for years. What has stopped being obvious is how to grow it further without the owner personally holding the entire operation together, and how to do that in a market where the usual advice from interstate coaches assumes conditions that do not apply here.
Why Running a Business in Darwin Is Structurally Harder
The Darwin owners Sean works with are not fighting the same fights as their Sydney or Melbourne counterparts. The operating context is genuinely different, and it shapes what the business needs from its owner.
Labour is the first one. The talent pool is smaller, workers move on faster, and every senior hire has to be weighed against the reality that they might be back on a plane within two years. That pressure lands on the owner because when someone leaves, there is often nobody else internally who can step into the role, and replacing them takes months rather than weeks.
Then there is supply and freight. Everything costs more to get here, arrives on longer timelines, and lands with less reliability than the same input would in a capital city down south. That reality has to be built into pricing, into inventory management, and into how the business communicates with its customers.
Sitting behind both of those is the demand-side reality. A significant portion of Darwin’s economy is tied to defence spending, public sector contracts and resource cycles, and those cycles do not follow the national economic mood. The businesses that do well long-term in Darwin are the ones that have built enough operational resilience to hold their team and their margin through the quieter periods, and enough capacity to move quickly when the busy periods hit.
None of this gets solved by working more hours. It gets solved by building an operation that can hold together without the owner personally involved in every decision, and by getting the financials sharp enough to make the harder calls with real conviction. That is the piece of work Inner Circle is built to do.

How the Program Actually Works for Darwin Members
Three questions come up on almost every first call.
How much time does it actually take?
Less than most owners expect. One-on-one coaching with Sean runs over video call and slots into your working week around everything else. Calls happen as and when you need them, with no rigid structure, and generally finish within the hour. In between, the work happens inside the business on the priorities you have agreed.
Who am I actually working with?
Sean directly, and a mentor team of more than 20 specialists across finance, operations, sales, marketing, hiring, leadership and culture. When a real decision on the table sits inside one of those disciplines, the mentor who works with you on it has spent their career in that field. That is the practical difference between having a coach and having a team of specialists behind the business.
Are there other NT businesses in the program?
Yes. Wigg Plumbing is the most public example, having grown from a 2.87 percent net margin at $40k profit to $3.145 million in revenue at a 24 percent margin over two years in the program. Other Darwin owners inside the program run businesses across trades, construction, transport and services. Members stay in contact between events.
Underneath the mechanics, the coaching keeps circling four questions. Are the numbers actually clear? Is the team structured to hold the business together without the owner in every decision? Is the owner playing the role the business now needs from them? Where is the whole thing heading over the next three to five years?
What It Looks Like When It Works
Inner Circle members in the Top End have grown revenue, rebuilt profit margins from single digits into the twenties, and pulled their working weeks back to something closer to what they had in mind when they started the business. The Wigg Plumbing case study and others below walk through what that has actually looked like.

Sean has a rare combination of integrity and competence. If his gut tells him you are about to make the wrong choice, he will tell you straight, that kind of honesty is hard to find and it is exactly what you want from someone guiding your business. Sean and the team genuinely values giving you high quality advice tailored to your situation rather than the generic. Everything he shares is practical and actionable, so you walk away knowing exactly what to do next rather than sitting on a pile of theory. His thinking is also incredibly transferable. The principles apply to any business, and he has a real talent for breaking complex ideas down into analogies that actually stick with you long after the conversation ends. If you are serious about growing, Sean and his team are well worth your time.Posted on Google![]()

I am very grateful to have been part of the Sean workshop. The material and guidance provided helped me identify important gaps in my business and gave me clarity on the areas I need to improve. It was also inspiring to connect with other entrepreneurs and successful business owners who have built profitable businesses through discipline, consistency, and focus. Sean and his team went beyond business strategies by also sharing valuable psychological and neurological insights that influence the way we think, make decisions, and navigate challenges in business. This workshop gave me not only practical guidance for my future business decisions, but also motivation, confidence, and direction. A special thanks to Sean, David, and Tim for their humble, supportive, and professional approach to every individual case scenario. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()

Sean has worked with NT owners for years and travels to Darwin regularly for member sessions and events. If you would like Sean to speak at your event, industry conference, or leadership offsite in the Top End, the team can be reached through the link below.
Is Inner Circle the Right Fit for Your Business?
A rough test. The Darwin owners who get the most out of the program usually sit inside most of these:
- Turnover somewhere between $750k and $50M
- A team of at least five people, with a senior person the owner is either leaning on or actively developing
- Established long enough to have real customers and a real reputation in the local market
- The constraint on further growth is the owner’s own time and capacity, and demand is not the problem
- Have tried a coach, mastermind or intensive before, and understand what a shorter format can offer
- Prepared to commit to a piece of work across at least a year, usually longer
If most of the list applies, the first call is worth having. If the business is still in its first year or two, or the owner is looking for a two-day intensive that promises a change of state, Sean’s content library is a better starting point.
How to Get Started
Apply online, book a time with Sean’s team, and use the first call to talk through where the business actually sits and what the next stage needs to look like. If Inner Circle is not the right move at this point, the team will say so directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the coaching account for the way NT business cycles actually work?
Yes. A significant portion of the NT economy runs on defence spending, public sector contracts and resources activity, and those cycles do not follow national economic patterns. The coaching addresses that reality directly. Pricing that holds through the quieter periods. Team structures that do not have to be rebuilt every time demand shifts. Cash flow management that assumes irregular income rather than a smooth annual curve.
How does Inner Circle handle the workforce turnover issue?
This is one of the more common conversations Darwin members have with Sean. The specific NT challenge is that traditional retention playbooks assume a workforce that plans to stay in the region long-term, and Darwin’s workforce often does not. The coaching works on the practical version of the problem. Building roles that can be handed over cleanly when someone leaves. Documenting the operational knowledge that walks out the door with every senior departure. Structuring pay, culture and career paths in a way that extends average tenure without pretending the underlying reality is going to change.
Is Sean in Darwin often enough to actually understand it?
Sean has worked with NT owners for years and travels to Darwin regularly for member sessions and events. The coaching is not a case of an interstate coach applying a southern-states framework to a Top End business. Where local context matters, the mentor team and Sean have the working experience with NT businesses to know what will and will not translate.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the level of mentoring and support that matches where the business is sitting. Sean’s team walks through the numbers on the first call once the fit is clear. Weighed against what most established businesses leave on the table each year in soft pricing, missed strategic opportunities, and owner time that never comes back, Inner Circle sits at the more cost-effective end of the market.
